Russia is unlikely to show aggression against Georgia in the near future, former Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze said Monday in an interview with the Asaval-Dasavali newspaper.

"Experts' statements on the Russia's aggression expected in the spring do not correspond to reality," he said.

Shevardnadze believes Russia will not launch an attack on Georgia for the coming two years at least. However, he did not exclude the possibility of Russia's potential to do "anything".

Regarding the allocation of a trillion rubles on arms by Russia, he said that it was certain that Russia had made some plans. "Today it has a good relationship with the United States, but what will happen in the future? I do not exclude the possibility that new weapons will be directed against the United States, EU and Georgia, "he said.

Russia made so many mistakes that it should have been made answerable for, however so far this has not happened and  Georgia must, therefore, establish relations with Moscow, he said.

Military actions were launched in the unrecognized republic of South Ossetia in August 2008. Georgian troops entered Tskhinvali, with the Russian troops later occupying the city. The Russian armed forces drove the Georgian military back into Georgia as they moved towards Tbilisi. Russia recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia on Aug. 26 and established diplomatic ties with the secessionist states on Sept. 9, 2008.
