To study the cases of disrespect of the professional behavior of the Azerbaijani journalists, the Press Council of Azerbaijan should be delegated additional authorities. For this reason, we have prepared a project of amendments and annexes to the law On media, the Chairman of the Azerbaijan Press Council, Aflatun Amashov, informed Trend.
Amashov stressed that the amendments are linked directly to the authority of the Press Council. He said that the Press Council receives numerous complaints and make decisions on these complaints. However press organizations affected by the decisions, do not attach importance to the decisions and continue violating the rules of journalists' professional behavior. We have decided to devise a project of amendments and annexes to the law On media. The project reflects the authority delegated to the Press Council. We suggest that if the rules of journalists' professional behavior are violated more than three times and if the Press Council makes a decision, the court may terminate the activities of those press organizations or apply a fine, Amashov said.
In addition, the Press Council wants authorities to fight against racket newspapers.
