A plant for the synthesis of pharmaceutical substances against coronavirus will be built in Uzbekistan’s Navoi free economic zone, Trend reports with reference to Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Innovative Development.
The project, implemented jointly by the Shanghai Institute of Pharmacology, was discussed at an online meeting with Uzbekistan’s Minister of Innovative Development Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov and Chinese scientists specializing in chemical development.
During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on accelerating the implementation of the project to create an Uzbek-Chinese medical technology park for the synthesis of medicines in the Navoi region.
Moreover, Chinese scientists presented the newest drug VV116 ("Remindevir") against the COVID-19 virus, developed by the Shanghai Institute of Matter.
It was noted that Remindevir is a new form of Remdesivir that has low side effects and will be available in tablet form.
According to the participants, the drug is currently undergoing clinical trials, and upon completion of the studies.
"The pharmaceutical plant, the construction of which is planned in Karmaninsky district of Navoi region, will become the first enterprise in Uzbekistan that will carry out chemical synthesis of drug substances," said Minister of Innovative Development Ibrohim Abdurakhmonov.
The creation of the plant will allow to receive capital from science, create new jobs, conditions for the production of competitive high-tech products.
