Georgia sees increase in hazelnuts export

Georgia has exported hazelnuts to 30 countries from January through April 2021, Trend reports referring to the National Statistics Office (Geostat).

The volume of exports of Georgian hazelnuts in monetary terms amounted to $29.17 million, which is 101 percent higher compared to the same period of the prior year and 156 percent more in comparison from January through April 2019.

A total of 4922.3 tonnes of hazelnuts, worth $29.17 million has been exported from Georgia during the first four months of the current year. The volume was 2,272.7 tonnes or $14.51 million from January through April 2020. This year, significant growth has been recorded even in comparison with 2019. Some 2,127 tonnes, worth $11.38 million hazelnuts have been exported from January through April 2019, which is 156 percent less than this year.

With $6.93 million or 1,128.6 tonnes, Germany was the main importer of Georgian hazelnut during the first four months of 2021. It was followed by Italy – $3.60 million or 581 tonnes.

Top importers of Georgian hazelnut this year were:

Russia – $2.65 million; 488.9 tonnes;
Lithuania – $2 million; 304 tonnes;
Armenia – $1.84 million 408.3 tonnes;
Belarus – $1.67 million; 286.6 tonnes;
Czechia – $1.49 million; 246.5 tonnes;
Saudi Arabia – $1.43 million; 209 tonnes;
France – $1.40 million; 213 tonnes;
Spain – $1.16 million; 184 tonnes;
Ukraine – $1.05 million; 224.2 tonnes.
