Turkey is planning to start oil production on the Arykaya-1 field's well in the Kozluk region of the Batman province, The Lira newspaper reported on Wednesday.
According to the report, the drilling of the well was carried out at a depth of 2900 metres. Oil production will begin following the development of the well.
According to the newspaper, the Arykaya-1 field is one of the richest oil fields in Turkey. It is expected that the well will produce an average of 2500-3000 barrels of oil per day.
Following the start of production on this field, the Turkish Petroleum Corporation TPAO plans to start drilling on the Arykaya-3 field, located in the same area.
Earlier, a report from the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources said the Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) had discovered 11 oil wells and six natural gas wells in the country during the exploration of new oil and gas fields in 2012.
In total, some 56 wells were drilled during the period of which 54 are onshore and two offshore.
Eight oil fields were discovered in the south-eastern part of the country as of 2012.
Turkey is actively searching for oil fields to reduce dependence on oil product supplies from abroad.
