Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

The Japanese energy company TEPCO is implementing the first investment project in Georgia, Trend reports referring to the Georgian media.

As the Japanese Ambassador to Georgia, Akira Imamura noted, energy security and energy independence are very important aspects for Japan, since the economy and human progress are largely dependent on energy resources.

According to him, hydroelectric power plants play a decisive role in the life of Japan: most of the electricity is generated by hydroelectric power plants, and this trend will continue in the coming years. Hydropower facilities are being built even in places with unstable seismology. Naturally, we study seismological aspects comprehensively and communicate with the public to reach a consensus on the safety of construction works and natural and social impacts.

“Georgia has a huge hydropower potential, and Japan is exploring this potential with great interest. Japan has already made its first investments in this direction. Therefore, our energy giant TEPCO has decided to implement the first investment project at the Dariali HPP,” Akira said.

The construction of HPP Dariali began at the end of 2014. Dariali HPP is located in Kazbegi municipality in the Georgian region of Mtskheta-Mtianeti.
