Bird flu hit Vietnam's Hau Giang province, another province in southern Mekong Delta last week, raising the total number of provinces with disease to four, said the Department of Animal Health of Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development here on Monday.
In Hau Giang Province, a flock of 400 ducks raised at a local farm died early last week, said the department. The ducks are about 45 days old and had not been vaccinated, Xinhua reported.
Currently, there are four provinces of Vietnam hit by avian flu, including three provinces in Mekong Delta, namely Ca Mau, Soc Trang and Hau Giang and one central province of Nghe An, said the department.
Meanwhile, Vietnam has undergone foot-and-mouth disease in livestocks. The disease has broken out in five provinces including the Central highlands province of Kon Tum, northern provinces of Son La and Hoa Binh, southern Long An Province, and central province of Quang Binh.
The department and local animal health agencies are pooling their resources to fight the spread of avian flu and foot-and- mouth disease in Vietnam nationwide.
