Tehran, Iran, Nov. 23

The head of Iranian Navy Research and Self-Sufficiency Jihad Office General Ali Gholamzadeh said that the country is constructing a new destroyer.
"The Sahand destroyer's power will be two times more than Jamaran destroyer," he said, Iran's Fars News Agency reported on Nov. 23.
"The destroyer's range will also be much more than the range of Jamaran," he added.
"It takes 3-4 years for Iran to construct a destroyer which is equal to the global average," the general explained.
Iran launched the indigenously-manufactured Jamaran 2 destroyer in the Caspian Sea near the northern port city of Bandar Anzali in March 2013, Press TV reported.
Jamaran 2, a Wave-class warship, has been designed and built by the experts at Iran's Defense Ministry and has state-of-the-art navigation equipment and complex defense systems.
The 1,420-ton destroyer is powered by a 20,000-horsepower engine with a speed of 30 knots and has the capability to carry helicopters, different surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles, advanced artilleries and torpedo system. It is also equipped with an electronic war system.
Iran has recently made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems.
