Azerbaijan, Baku, 24 September / Trend corr. S.Babayeva/ "Azerbaijani consumers should not worry about the quality of children's food they buy," Azerbaijan's Deputy Health Minister Elsevar Agayev said at the opening ceremony of international healthcare exhibition BIHE-2008 in Baku on 24 September .
"The children's food sold in Azerbaijan is safe for health, as detrimental products are not exported from China," Agayev said.
According to foreign media, over 1,000 children suffered in the People's Republic of China from low-quality human milk substitute.
Large-scale examination revealed melamine in the products of three largest human milk substitute producers in China - Sanlu Group, Yili Industrial Group Co. and Mengniu Dairy Co. According to Chinese media, problems with children's food occurred in a range of settlements.
Adulterating of food and forage with melamine is a widespread practice in China. Melamine is added to products to imitate high protein content. Chinese law-enforcement bodies revealed how melamine was adulterated in children's food.
According to Agayev, children's food quality is controlled by the sanitary and quarantine inspectorate and sanitary bodies of Azerbaijani Health Ministry.
