Iran’s tea production grows 5%

As many as 25,158 tons of tea leaves have been produced so far this Iranian year (started March 21, 2019) and the production increased by 5 percent compared to the same period last year, Chairman of the Iran Tea Organization Habib Jahansaz said, Trend reports via IANA.

He said that 111,818 tons of tea leaves have been purchased from farmers so far.

Jahansaz added that 56,590 tons accounted for the first grade tea and 55,233 tons for the second grade tea.

“The value of tea purchased from farmers is 3.09 trillion rials (about $73.5 million),” he said. “So far, 2.53 trillion rials (about $60.4 million) have been paid to farmers.”

He noted that tea plantations will expand by about 5,000 hectares of land this year, with the allocation of a loan worth 180 billion rials (about $4.28 million).
