Croatia plans to establish long-term cooperation with Kazakhstan in the field of energy, Croatian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development told Trend.

The ministry noted that energy security is an important issue in Croatia and although Croatia has domestic production of oil and gas, it also imports energy and sees Kazakhstan as a potential partner in this field and are open for future cooperation.

"Within the framework of the Energy Union, Croatia, as an EU member state, sees securing of energy supply as well as diversification of sources of energy imports as very important. In that regard, we view Kazakhstan as a potential partner in securing energy for Europe and plan to establish long-term cooperation in the field of energy within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of the Republic of Croatia and the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Energy Cooperation, which is currently under preparation," the ministry said.

Croatia is also open to cooperation with Kazakhstan in line with the new EU energy policy and the European Green Deal, the ministry official said.

"The LNG Terminal on the Island of Krk enables supply of neighboring countries owing to the existing infrastructure for gas transport and the necessary interconnections to EU MS. In this context, let us point out that Croatia has an open gas market that welcomes new suppliers and gas supply companies from Kazakhstan are more than welcome to trade in Croatia," the ministry added.
