BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 24. The transport ministers of Azerbaijan and China, Rashad Nabiyev and Li Xiaopeng, held discussions on cooperation related to the Middle Corridor and future transport developments, Trend reports, referring to Minister Nabiyev's X page.

"We exchanged views on improving the regulatory framework between our countries and expanding collaboration in rail, road, and air transport," the minister wrote.

The minister noted that he invited the Chinese minister to participate in ministerial panel discussions on a "Sustainable Middle Corridor" and "Green" public transport during COP29 events in Baku this November.

Additionally, Nabiyev mentioned his meeting with Lu Zhengfan, head of China Railways, where they highlighted China's interest in developing the southern route of the Middle Corridor (Kazakhstan-Azerbaijan-Georgia) for multimodal transport.

To note, the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, also known as the Middle Corridor, connects China and European countries via Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea water area, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye. TITR has been in operation for 10 years but has been actively developing for the last two years. In 2023, 2.7 million tons of cargo passed through it (86 percent more than in 2022); in 2024, the volume may exceed 4.2 million tons.
