TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, November 13. Uzbekistan Railways (Uzbekiston Temir Yullari) plans to launch a high-speed highway from Tashkent to Samarkand with the help of the World Bank, Trend reports.
As per data provided by Uzbekistan Railways, the new infrastructure is planned to be used only for high-speed trains.
"We are now in talks not only with the World Bank but with many other international financial institutions about building a separate highway for high-speed trains from Tashkent to Samarkand," First Deputy Chairman of Uzbekistan Railways Hikmatulla Rakhmetov said.
Meanwhile, the Uzbekistan-2030 country development strategy provides for the construction of new high-speed highways between Tashkent and Samarkand, as well as Navoi and Bukhara, which will increase the speed of transportation by 2.5 times.
In October 2023, the leadership of Uzbekistan Temir Yullari and representatives of the World Bank discussed a project for increasing the speed on railways from 250 to 300 km/h.
Earlier this year, Uzbekistan Railways revealed its plans to open a number of new separate companies for the development of infrastructure, freight cars, and logistics, as well as passenger transportation and station management, by the end of 2023.
Uzbekistan Railways will provide accounting, finance, management, and digitalization, as well as procurement and professional development services, to organizations within its structure.
