Man Commits Suicide in Baku Jumping from Maiden Tower (updated) (video)

Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr S. Ilhamgizi / A man committed suicide by jumping from Maiden's Tower in Baku, Trend reports via its People's Journalists project. The man is being identified. Employees of Sabail District Police and an ambulance are at the scene of the incident. Doctors confirmed the death of the man.

No documents were found on the man, the Deputy Prosecutor of Sabail District, Elchin Sultanov, who is at the scene of the accident, said. He had a bottle of medicine in his hand (the name of the medicine has not been identified yet).

According to an eye-witness, at the top of the tower the man was warned by an official not to sit on the edge of the tower. Following the warning the man stood up and moved from the edge, but several minutes later he again went up to the edge and suddenly threw himself off.

An investigation is underway.

The height of the historical monument dating from the 12th century is 28 metres.
