Weather Holds Back Search of Crashed MIG-29 – Azerbaijani State Border Service

Azerbaijan, Lankaran, 14 February / Trend corr P. Aliyeva / The delay in the search of crashed MIG-29 and the bodies of its pilots is caused due to the unstable weather, Elchin Guliyev, the head of the Azerbaijani State Border Service said to journalists on 14 February.

"The wreckages of the Aircraft and bodies of the pilots could have been moved by the strong wind, after the crash," Guliyev said.

On 29 Jan, the fighter MIG-29 of the Air Forces of Azerbaijan crashed during the trainings. Both the pilots in board of the fighter died.

Initially, the search was held by the Emergency Situations Ministry and the Defence Ministry. 11 days after the crash, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan and the State Border Service have also joined the search.

Last year, Azerbaijan purchased MIG-29, which was upgraded by Ukraine.

According to Guliyev, the real situation should be taken into consideration during the search operations. The strong wind has intensified the underwater stream and the territory to be searched has extended, which has put some delays in the work. Guliyev believes that the search will be a success in near the future.
