US Vice President’s Visit to Azerbaijan Will Emphasize Significance of Cooperation: US Ambassador

Azerbaijan, Baku, 26 August / Trend corr. R.Novruzov / The forthcoming visit of Richard Cheney, the United States Vice President to Azerbaijan must emphasize significance of the cooperation between the United States and Azerbaijan, Anne Derse, the United States Ambassador to Azerbaijan, said to journalists on 26 August.

The United States Vice President's visit is scheduled for 2 September.

" Azerbaijan is a valuable strategic partner for the United States. Therefore, we should strengthen Azerbaijan's confidence towards the United States," Derse said.

According to the Ambassador, Richard Cheney should stress the economic and energy aspects of interrelation between the United States and Azerbaijan.

Cheney's visit to the region is planned within his tour scheduled for 2 September. Cheney is expected to visit Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine and Italy.

According to Reuters, Cheney's visit to Georgia is aimed to demonstrate the United States' support to Georgia.

Richard Cheney was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, on 30 January 1941. In 2000, Cheney was appointed as the Vice President by Bush Administration. Initially, Cheney's visit was planned earlier. However, the visit was postponed due to the recent developments in Georgia.
