EU supports establishment of Central-Asian center to combat drug trafficking in Kazakhstan: EU special representative

The European Union (EU) supports idea to create Central-Asian center to combat drug trafficking in Astana, EU special representative for Central Asian countries Pierre Morel said.

Drug-traffic is one the gravest problems of Central Asia, he said.

Other problem is poverty problem. It promotes drug-traffic, Morel said at III forum of the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council (EAPC), held in Astana.

He called terrorism and extremism, poverty and misery, migration process, problem of water resources distribution and problem of uranium tailing pits among other grave problems of the region. Stability depends of these tailing pits in the region.  

Meeting on this problem will be held in Geneva on June 29, 2010, Morel said.
