EU Commissioner to attend Euronest in Baku

The European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Fule will visit Azerbaijan in a few weeks, the head of the EU office in Baku Roland Kobia told media today. The purpose of the visit is to participate in the Euronest session in Baku.

The European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Fule will visit Azerbaijan in a few weeks, the head of the EU office in Baku Roland Kobia told media today. The purpose of the visit is to participate in the Euronest session in Baku.

Mr Fule will also meet with Azerbaijani officials during the visit, Mr Kobia said.

Relations between the EU and Azerbaijan were established in the 1990s. The European Commission supported the CIS countries over the TACIS programme.

There is a partnership and cooperation agreement between the EU and Azerbaijan that came into force in 1999. The cooperation with the European Neighbourhood Policy has been operating since 2003.

Relations between Azerbaijan and the EU entered a new phase with a partnership within the EU Eastern Partnership being formed in May 2008 and launched by Poland and Sweden.
