BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 29. Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and his Uzbek counterpart Bakhtiyor Saidov have signed and approved a “Comprehensive Program of events to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan,” a source in the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told Trend.
The document was signed on the sidelines of the 2nd trilateral meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Trade/Economy, and Transport of Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and Uzbekistan.
The meeting between Bayramov and Saidov has discussed issues arising from the Azerbaijani-Uzbek alliance, opportunities for expanding bilateral and multilateral cooperation, as well as the current situation in the region in the post-conflict period.
"The parties have expressed hope that the past year, marked by the signing of a treaty establishing allied relations between the two countries, as well as the current 2025 year, which celebrates the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, will bring further development to the political, economic, trade, energy, transport, and cultural-humanitarian aspects of the alliance.
The importance of the existing high-level dialogue between the leaders of the two countries, the Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan High Interstate Council, the intergovernmental commission, and the political consultation mechanism in the development of the alliance between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, based on brotherhood and friendship, has been emphasized.
Significance of enhancing cooperation and mutual support within the framework of the regional and international organizations, including the Organization of Turkic States, UN, Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Non-Aligned Movement, Organization of Economic Cooperation, Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), and other multilateral formats, has been underscored.
It was noted that the agreement on a strategic partnership in the field of development and transfer of green energy between Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, signed last year within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), is one of the important steps towards the development of regional energy, transport and communications.
Bayramov also informed his colleague about restoration, reconstruction, and mine clearance, including efforts to establish peace in the region in the post-conflict period.
The obstacles standing in the way of advancing the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia were discussed, including territorial claims against our country reflected in the Constitution of Armenia, as well as the armament of this country, which jeopardizes the agenda for normalizing relations between the two countries.
During the meeting, views were also exchanged on other issues of mutual interest.
To note, today Turkish, Azerbaijani, and Uzbek ministers of trade, transportation, and foreign affairs met in Ankara, Türkiye. The meeting's agenda covers foreign policy and regional cooperation, boosting trade, economy, and investment partnerships; enhancing regional transportation networks; and fortifying collaboration in transport and communication sectors.
