Azerbaijan, Baku, 2 August / corr. Trend E.Babayev / The Azerbaijani Education Ministry stated that a final opinion the private Azerbaijani International University' would be publicized in September. "At present we cannot say that this university will be closed. We will publicize our final decision in this respect at the beginning of school-year," Misir Mardanov, the Education Minister, told Trend on 2 August. It is too early to express a concrete opinion on the future activities of the university, the Minister said. "This issue will be clarified in September," he noted.
The Azerbaijani International University was registered and got a status of private university at decree 204 of the Cabinet of Ministers, dated 11 October 1997. The university also got a certificate 15 from the Justice Ministry on 7 November 1997 and license 48-11-4058/16 of the Education Ministry.
Some legislative violations were revealed at the Azerbaijani International University in 2008. At present more than 90 students of the university cannot get a diploma. In this connection, students' parents held numerous meetings with the Education Minister, as well as, with other senior officials of the Ministry. The Education Minister considers that students, who have not passed examinations held by the State Commission on Students Admission, study at the Azerbaijani International University and it arouses problems on granting diplomas to these students.
The leadership of the university has not publicized their position on this matter yet.
