Azerbaijan, Baku, 26 August / Trend corr. R.Ergun / Azad Rahimov, Azerbaijani Youth and Sports Minister, believes that Azerbaijani sportsmen performed well in the Olympic Games in Beijing-2008.
" Azerbaijan gained first the golden medal amongst Muslims countries. One should consider successful the fact that Azerbaijan took 29th place due to the number and 39th place due to the quality in the Olympiad," Rahimov said in the airport returning from Beijing.
Forty-four sportsmen represented Azerbaijan in the Olympic Games in Beijing.
China took the first place due to the number of gained medals.
Azerbaijani sportsman Elnur Mammadli gained golden medal (judoka), Rovshan Bayramov and Vitaliy Rahimov gained silver medals (Graeco-Roman wrestling), Movlud Miraliyev (judoka), Shahin Imranov (boxing), Mariya Stadnik and Hetak Gazimov (free wrestling) gained bronze medals.
