Azerbaijani Parliament in the third reading will discuss the bill "On ensuring rights and freedoms of persons held in detention".

At the meeting held on Friday, the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Policy and State Building has recommended the bill for consideration at the plenary session of Parliament.

After the law's adoption in the second reading, consultations were held in order to bring the document into line with international standards, the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Policy and State Building, Ali Huseynli, who presented the bill said.

Ministries of Justice and Internal Affairs which directly enforce the discussed law reacted very constructively to the proposals made, Huseynli said.

The bill defines the legal status of persons held in detention, regime in prisons and the basis of its ensuring.

The bills stated that women may keep with them children under the age of three years. Improved living conditions for pregnant women and women with children under the age of three years are being created, they are provided with special health care, special dietary standards. Walks for these women are extended by two hours beyond the norm.

The bill also stated that the arrested people before their sending to places of detention within 24 hours are examined, based on which registration is held.

Under the law, appropriate conditions are created to perform religious ceremonies in places of detention.

Religious ceremonies can be performed with the participation of religious ministers.

The representative of the OSCE Office in Baku, Monica Martinez, who participated in the meeting said during a discussion of the bill said, overall, the bill meets international standards. She added that during the preparation of the bill OSCE Office in Baku held regular consultations.
