Huge work is being carried out in the field of digital transformation at the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), Deputy Head of Information Technologies and Communications Department of SOCAR Fuad Aliyev told Trend.
“SOCAR launched the digital transformation since 2006 and enterprise resource planning (ERP) was introduced for the first time in the Caucasus,” the deputy head of the department said. “The digital transformation in SOCAR is widely used in manufacturing sectors today.”
“The technologies are also used in the exploration of deposits, management of oil and gas resources,” Aliyev added. “All these processes have been fully integrated into a single system and this work is underway to expand the use of artificial intelligence and high technologies.”
The deputy head of the department that the corresponding projects are being developed in SOCAR to provide the population with timely information about the volume of gas they use upon LoRaWAN technology (a technology that is rapidly gaining popularity in the Internet of Things solutions).
“LoRaWAN technology is built on the basis of the LPWAN wireless wide area network technology,” Aliyev said. “The advantage of using this technology is the minimum energy consumption. The test work on its application in gas meters has already begun.”
LPWAN is a wireless wide area network technology that interconnects low-bandwidth, battery-powered devices with low bit rates over long ranges designed for telemetry, machine-to-machine communication and the Internet of Things.
