The Azerbaijani State Committee for Standardization, Metrology and Patents conduct about 10-15 inspections at the sale points in Baku every day and around 5 inspections in the regions. Some 8-10 of them regularly undergo fine and other sanctions, Head of the Committee Ramiz Hasanov said on June 2.

"Violations are different degrees of severity, some are serious, and a number of problems are connected with the labels, the lack of standard regulations in Azerbaijan," Hasanov said.

Hasanov said in the case of minor violations, violators pay a fine, but in case of serious violations of the consumers' rights, the company receives a warning and suspend its activities upon the instruction of the committee, if they do not eliminate them.

The main focus of the monitoring committee is a food market, but the fact that 2009 is declared the Year of children in Azerbaijan, the committee has also strengthened the supervision of the manufacture and sale of children's clothing and toys
