Azerbaijan, Baku, June 2 / Trend , U. Ismayilova/

Azerbaijani State Committee for Standardization, Metrology and Patent is monitoring sale of China-produced children's toys, committee's head Ramiz Hasanov said.

"The monitoring is going on. The results will be available next week," Hasanov said.

He said some of products are examined in laboratory and results will take some time.

"If major irregularities are revealed, imports of goods harmful for children's health will be banned," he said.

The quality of China-produced toys was called into question in summer 2007 when Mattel Inc., top toy producer in the U.S. (famous Barbie toys), withdrew 18.2 million toys produced by one of its businesses in China from the markets of the U.S., Canada, Britain and Mexico. The reason for this was the high content of lead in paint used for toys and magnets inserted into them. Lead, which makes paint brighter, can cause disease in the brain.
