Baku, Azerbaijan, May 2

Russian Export Center (REC) will officially open a representative office in Uzbekistan in the near future, Sputnik Uzbekistan reported on May 2 citing head of the REC office in the republic Dmitry Prokhorenko.
"We could not stick to our deadlines because of the political changes in Russia. We are currently waiting for someone from our administration to arrive here to open the office. We are planning to do this in the first half of 2018, maybe in May," Prokhorenko said.
According to him, the REC is currently actively developing relations with Uzbekistan and is planning to increase the number of joint projects with the country.
"This clearly shows that we see the potential for development in Uzbekistan. We have good relationships at the level of local ministries and departments. We decided to open an office, realizing that the number of projects in Uzbekistan will only grow," Prokhorenko said.
The REC is discussing with the government of Uzbekistan possibility of allocating funds for financing construction of a nuclear power plant, and is also preparing to sign a $141-million loan agreement on construction of the Tashkent Metallurgical Plant.
The REC currently has about 30 projects in Uzbekistan in various sectors of industry. In October 2017, REC CEO Pyotr Fradkov announced that the center plans to support projects of Russian companies in Uzbekistan for a total of up to $1 billion.
The Center was also involved in construction of a synthetic fuel plant in the Kashkadarya region and modernization of the Syrdarya thermal power plant and the Farhad hydropower plant.
