Azerbaijan’s ruling party: Opposition’s claim about 10,000 rally participants is laughable
Azerbaijan, Baku, April 9 / Trend E. Mehdiyev /
Statement by the opposition that the number of those present at the rally on Sunday was 10,000, may cause only laughter, the ruling New Azerbaijan party (NAP) believes.
"I consider the number of protesters, declared by the executive branch of Baku to be actual. A maximum of 1,200 people attended the rally, 300 of whom were representatives of the media. There were no 10,000 people. They do not understand what they say and do not reason logically. Protesters claim that the government made it impossible for buses to go to the area. In fact, they lie, because in that hours buses worked on schedule and everyone could go there," Deputy Executive Secretary of the NAP, MP Mubariz Gurbanly said, expressing his attitude to protest action of the so-called Public Chamber.
The opposition claims that at a least 10,000 people attended the rally.
"We, together with Siyavush Novruzov, were coming back from an event, and, passing by, stopped to look. We saw there weren't many people. If, as they say, the buses were removed from the route, how 10,000 people could get there? It's funny that they without noticing it, acknowledge that they are lying. They say that there were 10,000 people and then claim that there were no buses. How many buses are needed for 10,000 people to get there for two hours?" he added.
He said no one prevented those wishing from going to the rally. Many people live in that area and no one showed interest in the rally.
"A false statement about the number of protesters aimed to be conveyed to the outer circles, that a large-scale rally was held, as well as to justify the obtained money. However, they work very primitive, because they knew that foreigners are watching them, and without ending the rally dispersed," he added.
Along with unskillfulness the opposition has demonstrated also its falsity, he added.
