BAKU, Azerbaijan, Mar. 31. The American Chamber of Commerce in Azerbaijan (AmCham) today represents 19 sectors of the Azerbaijani economy and being the leading business association in Azerbaijan, unites more than 250 companies, in which multinational corporations are represented along with the US and Azerbaijani capital, AmCham President Nargiz Nasrullayeva said in an interview with Trend.

Nasrullayeva said that the diplomatic relations between the US and Azerbaijan were established in 1992.

"While developing, the relations between the two countries have entered a new phase and in general, the relations between Azerbaijan and the US have covered various spheres over 30 years," AmCham president added. "Partnership has been strengthened between the countries in economy, energy, security and other spheres."

Nasrullayeva added that at the initial stage of this partnership AmCham was founded in 1996, which from the first days of its activity helped establish the economic ties between the businesses of the two countries.

"The ties are developing thanks to the diversification of US energy supply routes and in particular, the successful implementation of the Southern Gas Corridor project," Nasrullayeva said.

AmCham president also stressed the constant support of the US for the development of oil and gas fields in Azerbaijan and other regions of the Caspian basin.

"Thus, Azerbaijan's oil and gas resources were supplied to the European and other markets and this, in turn, makes an important contribution to the economic development and global energy security," Nasrullayeva added.

She also added that the agricultural forums, bringing together politicians and agricultural producers from the US and Azerbaijan, were held in Oklahoma and Illinois last years.

AmCham president said that the purpose of these events was to establish cooperation between businessmen operating in the big agriculture-producing States of America and Azerbaijani businessmen, to view new methods which are used in the agricultural sector to develop livestock, as well as to manage medium and big farms and increase productivity, discuss the issues of growing grain and legumes by using modern methods.

"The positive changes in the country in recent years, which allowed Azerbaijan to take higher positions in Doing Business and Global Competitiveness Report, were discussed," Nasrullayeva added.

AmCham president stressed the process of organizing several events within the "Caspian Policy Center" on the initiative of an independent US analytical center, dedicated to the discussion and development of relations between Azerbaijan and the US in trade, infrastructure development and energy partnership.
