If necessary, Turkey may resume military operation in northern Iraq to kill terrorists, Anadolu Agency quotes Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan as saying on Saturday.

"Earlier, Turkey already conducted an operation in northern Iraq. At present, we are monitoring the situation and if necessary we may resume the operation in northern Iraq," Erdogan said.

There was skirmish between terrorist PKK militants and Turkish security forces in Sirnak during the last three days. The skirmish killed nine terrorists. The Turkish side lost 12 security officers.

In August 2011 the Turkish air force attacked positions of Kurdish separatists in northern Iraq and in the territory of Turkey.

The conflict between Turkey and the PKK, which has continued for more than 25 years, put an end to lives of over 40,000 people. PKK is recognized as terrorist organization by the UN and the EU.
