Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev attended People's Poet and Public Figure Bakhtiyar Vahabzade's farewell ceremony on Feb. 14.
On Feb. 13 famous Azerbaijani poet Bakhtiyar Vahabzade died after long illness. A farewell ceremony of the People's Poet took place at the Baku State University, where he worked as a teacher for 40 years. Vahabzade will be buried at the Honorary Cemetery.
"I appreciate poetry of great master of our time, people's poet, outstanding public figure of our epoch as "poetry of agonizing thought, peace, human being, palpitating for love and freedom", but lyric poetry of love as "flame of heart beyond time and space," Nizami Ganjavi Literature Institute Director and Academician Bakir Nabiyev told Trend .
People's poet Vahabzade was born on Aug. 16, 1925 in Sheki. His works - lyrical poems, dramas and publications were translated into many languages worldwide. The poet's creative way began from the time of the World War II. He became a member of Union of Writers of Azerbaijan in 1945. Over 40 years he taught at Baku State University with his creative work. He became a correspondent member of Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan in 1980. Only Vahabzade managed to issue dissident work - Gulustan poem reflecting fate of Azeri people, whose lands were divided between Russia and Iran early 19th century into North and South Azerbaijan. Vahabzade was persecuted by Soviet authorities for this poem.
Bahtiyar Vahabzade is a doctor of philological sciences, professor, real member of Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani people's poet, laureate of USSR state premium. He was awarded with high state Independence Order.
