The EU calls for the OSCE mission's return to Georgia and adopting measures to ensure the implementation of the six-point agreement signed in August 2008, European Council President Herman Van Rompuy said at a press conference in Brussels.
As the Georgian First Channel reported today, after the one-day EU-Russia summit, European Council President Herman Van Rompuy, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and President Dmitry Medvedev held a joint press conference.
"We still have unresolved conflicts threatening the stability and security of the EU and Russia," Van Rompuy said. "The EU is actively engaged in the peaceful settlement of these conflicts."
The meeting also discussed the OSCE summit in Astana and frozen conflicts.
Van Rompuy once again noted that the EU supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia.
Medvedev did not touch upon the Georgia issue in his conversation with journalists. He assessed the Astana meeting, which the president left suddenly, and expressed his criticism of the OSCE.
Military actions were launched in the unrecognized republic of South Ossetia in August 2008. Georgian troops entered Tskhinvali, with Russian troops later occupying the city. The Russian armed forces drove the Georgian military back into Georgia proper. Russia recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia on Aug. 26 and established diplomatic ties with the de facto states on Sept. 9, 2008.
