Despite the fact that the West, the U.S. and other powers have a strong influence on the internal and external situation of Egypt, Turkish MP from the ruling Justice and Development Party Abdurrahman Kurt thinks that the person, who will rule over Egypt not under pressure of foreign forces, but taking into account the requirements and the state of the Egyptian people, must take power in Egypt.
"Former President Hosni Mubarak was mainly dependent on the policy of other countries. However, the person, who will conduct an independent policy, must come to power," Kurt told Trend over phone from Ankara.
Large-scale anti-governmental protests were held in Egypt. Thousands of people in different cities across the country went to the streets, demanding President Hosni Mubarak's resignation and the dissolution of parliament. The unrests in the country have killed at least 300 people and have injured over 4,000.
A one million march passed at Tahrir Square in Cairo to demand the resignation of President Mubarak. As a result, on Friday, Mubarak announced about his resignation. The leadership passed to the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces.
He said that at the moment the armed forces council is trying to strengthen its position.
Defence Minister Hussein Tantawi is likely to be the next president in Egypt.
"Tantawi is the most realistic candidate for president in Egypt now", Kurt said.
He said that the Muslim Brotherhood organization is unlikely to agree to his candidacy. Perhaps, the Muslim Brotherhood organization will nominate its candidate before the elections.
"Tantawi will not make drastic changes in the foreign policy of Egypt. This will cause considerable dissatisfaction among people and the Muslim Brotherhood organization," Kurt said.
However, he believes that socio-economic situation in Egypt has significantly deteriorated after all the events. The army can stabilize and improve the internal situation in Egypt through necessary reforms.
"If Tantawi takes power in Egypt, the restoration of stability will not take much time," he said.
