Azerbaijan Railways transported 11.78 million tons of oil by rail in 2010 compared to 10.06 million tons in 2009.
He added that most of the transported crude oil and petroleum products fell to the transit of oil cargo, particularly from Central Asia.
Azerbaijan Railways regularly transports oil cargo from Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Azerbaijan. Oil and oil products are transported by rail to the SOCAR Kulevi Oil Terminal and Black Sea oil terminals, as well as the Georgian ports of Poti and Batumi.
Azerbaijan Railways transported 22.4 million tons of cargo last year compared to about 20.8 million tons in 2009.
The total length of railways in Azerbaijan is 2,929.4 km, of which 2,099.7 km are operational. The total length of railway in use is 804.7 km.
