IMF, WB plan to hold forum of governors in Turkmenistan

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has proposed to hold next interim meeting of governors of the Swiss group of the World Bank (WB) and IMF this year in Turkmenistan, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported on Saturday.
A similar event will be held for the first time in Central Asia.
It is expected that this meeting besides governor staff of the World Bank and IMF will be attended by representatives from about 60 countries, including the foreign ministers, finance and economy ministers, heads of the central banks of member countries of the above-mentioned structures.
Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov at the governmental meeting, speaking about the importance of the upcoming forum, stressed its important role in strengthening the mutually beneficial partnership, in a comprehensive and progressive development of the country's economy.
According to him, international forums held by Turkmenistan in foreign countries on a regular basis bear its real fruit.

"And the opportunities of the upcoming forum should be also used in order to attract foreign investments to implement important and large-scale projects deployed in our country," he said, noting that it is "reasonable" to hold the event in the national tourist zone "Avaza", where all necessary conditions are created for high-level forums.
