Members of the Turkmen Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (PIE) can nominate their candidates for election to Majlis (parliament) deputies, Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper said.
The new party was founded based on a previously adopted Law 'On political parties'.
In an interview with the chairman of the PIE Central Council Orazmamed Mammadov said that creation of the party unites people, charging them with the spirit that inspires the historical events taking place today.
The article notes that the government is committed to developing democratic principles and protect political and socio-economic rights and freedoms of Turkmen citizens.
'Local entrepreneurs will be able to make suggestions to improve the legislation, firstly protecting the interests of people, to develop laws that improve the competitiveness of the goods and products produced in our country in the world market and to improve Turkmenistan's role on the world economic stage', the article said.
The Ashgabat city committee of the party was recently established. Leaders of the party and committee members were elected at the first constituent assembly. Currently, preparation work is underway in regions where velayat (regional) committees will be created.
The term of an MP's powers is five years. The current staff was elected in February 2009.
According to the Turkmen constitution, parliament passes laws, makes changes and additions to the Constitution. It also considers issues over the appointment and dismissal of the chief of the Supreme Court, attorney general, interior minister and minister of justice and ratifies and terminates international treaties, addresses issues on changes of state borders and the administrative and territorial division of Turkmenistan.
