Based on the criteria of the International Labour Organization (ILO), unemployment rate in Iran is 11 percent, that is, 2.5 million unemployed people, said Deputy Minister of Labor Issa Mansuri.
The number of unemployed people, including those who are underemployed, stands at 6 million, he said, Mehr news agency reported October 2.
He quoted the Statistics Center of Iran as having reported that last Iranian fiscal year (which ended March 19), 667,000 new job opportunities were created.
Also, he added, the number of people who received insurance coverage for their first time hit 850,000.
In places around Iran, unemployment rate stands at 60 percent, the country's Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli said in July.
There are 3.5 million unemployed people in Iran, the minister added.
