The Georgian Interior Ministry has indicted chairman of the National Commission for Energy and Water Regulation Guram Chalagashvili.

According to the Interior Ministry, the investigative bodies revealed that Chalagashvili was at Amirani restaurant, located in the Kvitiri village (Tshaltub district) on January 12, 2013. He contacted director of the central branch of Energo Pro Georgia company in western Georgia David Muradashvili and urged to disconnect electricity supply at the restaurant.

Muradashvili has contacted technical manager Levan Kuprava and informed about Guram Chalagashvili's order. Afterwards, an electrician disconnected electricity supply at the restaurant and the nearby facilities. As a result, hundreds of Kutaisi companies were left without electricity.

According to the Interior Ministry, Chalagashvili is accused of violating Article 333 of the Georgian Criminal Code (abuse of power), which envisages the imprisonment of up to three years.

Guram Chalagashvili was questioned as an accused in the Imereti Regional Department of the Interior Ministry. The police indicted Chalagashvili but have not detained him.

While leaving the police building, Chalagashvili told media that he did not abuse his position.

On January 12, he felt burning odor during a reception at Amirani restaurant and proposed that electric wiring is burning. Therefore, he contacted the relevant bodies and ordered to disconnect the electricity supply.
