No time has yet been decided for a meeting between Iran and the six members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Morteza Sarmadi said.
"The Islamic Republic has already announced that if these countries are ready, preparations could be made for the meeting to be held either somewhere in the region or in New York," he said, Fars news agency reported September 7.
The issue of Iran holding talks with regional countries is not limited to the Qatari initiative, but Iran 's policy has always been that trust should be fortified between these countries each day, the official stated.
He underlined that prevalent threats to the region necessitate launching such talks.
"A few years ago maybe talking about common threats such as terrorism and extremism seemed difficult. But now all countries of the region are exposed to such threats. Therefore, talks are a necessity," he said.
Iran and the Arab countries, in particular Saudi Arabia, have continuously blamed each other for regional unrest.
There are disagreements between Iran and the states regarding ongoing situations in Syria, Iraq, and Yemen.
