BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 2. Member of the British Parliament Bob Blackman made a speech in the British Parliament on the occasion of the Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis on March 31, Trend reports.
According to information, in his speech, the MP recalled the massacre committed against Azerbaijanis and stated that it is important for the House of Commons to also honor and remember those who perished during these terrible events.
In his speech, Bob Blackman also touched on the mine danger in the territories of Karabakh liberated from occupation. He noted that hundreds of mines are currently being manually cleared in these territories, a process that is extremely dangerous and time-consuming. He asked the UK government to support Azerbaijan's demining efforts.
“It is important to honor the memory of those who tragically died on the anniversary of the genocide committed against the Azerbaijani people. Today, hundreds of mines are still being cleared by hand in Karabakh, which has been liberated from occupation. How can the government support Azerbaijan in demining these lands so that these lands are used for useful purposes?”
In response to the MP's speech, British Minister of State for Europe, North America and Overseas Territories Stephen Doughty stated that the MP rightly raised the issue of mines and emphasized the important role the UK plays in the field of mine clearance worldwide.
“As you know, the UK plays an important role in the world in this field. The UK's support for Azerbaijan's demining efforts is also known,” the minister said.
In his speech, the minister also touched upon the importance of peace in the region.
