Azerbaijan, Baku, Aug. 26 / Trend , A.Huseynbala/

A new Azerbaijani opposition party may appeal to a court due to a delay in its registration at the Justice Ministry.

"We will apply to the Justice Ministry to pass a state registration in the coming days. If the Justice Ministry does not give a positive answer, we will appeal to court," Chairman of the Aydinlar Party, Gulamhuseyn Alibayli, told Trend on Aug. 26.

The meeting which founded the Aydinlar party took place on Dec. 14.

Alibayli was elected chairman.

Alibayli was an adviser to President Abulfaz Elchibay in 1992-1993. He was elected as a MP for two consecutive terms in 1995-2005. He has also been a member of the Azerbaijani Parliament's delegation to PACE. He has been a member of Azerbaijan's Popular Front Party since 1989 and Chairman of the Supreme Majlis of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (APFP) since 1993. In early August, Alibayli left the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party to found the Aydinlar Party. Member of the APFP, Nizami Guliyev, said that he would resign from the party and join the Aydinlar Party.

Alibayli said they had submitted all the necessary papers to the Justice Ministry for registration after the party's assembly.

"We have repeatedly asked the Ministry for the reasons for the delay. The Ministry said that all the papers were in order and they were just checking people's signatures," the party's chairman said.

He said that there is no legal ground for the Justice Ministry delaying the registration. "I think our party will soon pass state registration," Alibayli stressed.
