The Embassy of Azerbaijan has joined the appeal of the Russian Embassy in Germany to the authorities of Berlin to refrain from carrying out a rock festival in the country's Treptower Park, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said Apr. 21 at a briefing.

She said that several other embassies of post-Soviet countries accredited in Germany joined this appeal.

The Treptower Park is one of three great Soviet memorials in Berlin. The facility, which was built between 1946 and 1948 on the site of a large playing and sports field, also serves as cemetery for thousands of Soviet solders. It is a memorial for Red Army soldiers killed during the conquest of Berlin in World War II.

Aside from the war cemetery in Niederschönhausen district of Berlin, the facility is the largest Soviet war cemetery in Germany as well as the largest anti-fascist memorial in Western Europe.
