BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 29. Iran will impose a 60 percent tax on potato exports from May 4, the statement of Iran's Customs Administration said, Trend reports.
According to the information, such a decision was made based on an appeal from the Iranian Ministry of Agriculture. The applied fee will be in effect for an indefinite period.
Meanwhile, recently, 1 kg of potatoes in the markets of Tehran rose in price from 125,000 rials (about $3) to 180,000 rials (about $5.6).
However, according to the statistics of the Iranian Customs Administration, during the nine months of last year (from March 21 through December 21, 2023), the export of Iranian cards amounted to 196,000 tons worth $72.1 million.
To note, a total of 5.5 million tons of potatoes were grown in Iran last year (from March 21, 2023 through March 20, 2024).
