It became necessary to build a second airport in Almaty to solve the problems with the land-off and reception of aircrafts, in view of flight delays due to weather conditions, Kazakh national airline Air Astana's President Peter Foster said at the board meeting of the Transport and Communications Ministry today.
"Flight delays occur due to weather conditions, especially in the winter, which requires a combination of flights to and from Almaty. The only solution to this problem in the future is to consider building an alternative airport in Almaty," Foster said.
According to him, the issue of building a new airport along the Kapshag route was raised about ten years ago.
"I believe that now is the time to return to these plans," Foster said.
