Baku, Azerbaijan, Jan. 10
By Huseyn Valiyev – Trend:
About 200,000 tons of persimmons were grown in Azerbaijan in 2018, which is similar with 2017, Chairman of the Association of Persimmon Producers and Exporters Gadir Yusifov told Trend.
“Persimmons are mainly exported,” he said. “Only 10 percent of persimmons are sold in Azerbaijan, ensuring domestic demand.”
"About 500 tons are supplied from refrigerated warehouses for export every day,” Yusifov said. “The main countries importing Azerbaijani persimmons are Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. These markets are more attractive to local importers as the price of persimmons in these countries is high. Azerbaijani persimmons are also exported to Kazakhstan and the UAE."
“Among the plans for the current year are the opening of a persimmon processing plant in Ganja, and the necessary equipment for the plant has already been ordered,” he said.
“Presently, similar plants are operating in Azerbaijan’s Goychay, Balakan and Aghjabadi regions,” Yusifov said earlier. “The plants for the production of semi-dried and dried persimmons also operate in these regions. The plants for production of frozen persimmons are planned to be established in the medium term.”
The Association of Persimmon Producers and Exporters was established in August 2017 on the initiative of entrepreneurs and with the support of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Economy.
The main objectives of the Association are to increase the production of competitive products, as well as expand exports of persimmons.
