An international conference on Afghanistan recently held in Kabul attached special significance to the possibility of implementing large-scale project - construction of the TAPI pipeline (Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India), the Turkmen national television channel Altyn Asyr reported on July 24.

The report notes that this project promises huge socio-economic benefits to not only people directly involved in the project, but all countries in the region.

In addition, during the conference, "full approval" was made for another important initiative of the Turkmen leadership - Ashgabat's readiness to host the inter-Afghan peace talks under the auspices of the UN.

As known, the obstacle to the realization of the trans-Afghan pipeline project, the discussion over which has been continuing since the early nineties, is precisely the continuing military actions in Afghanistan.

To ensure the security of energy transit, Turkmenistan has made an initiative that was supported. At its 63rd session, the UN General Assembly adopted a special resolution "Reliable and stable transit of energy resources and its role in sustainable development and international cooperation."

The length of the TAPI could reach 1,680 km, its design capacity is 30 billion cubic meters. meters of natural gas per year. The route is planned from the Turkmen fields Dovletabat through Herat and Kandahar (Afghanistan), through the districts of Quetta (Pakistan) to the area Fazlaka on the Indo-Pakistan border.
Leading Italian Eni Company recently announced the company's desire to transport gas from Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Iran to Pakistan, India and China.
