The volume of Internet traffic in Azerbaijan has increased from 15 Gbps to 40 Gbps since 2009, Deputy Communications and IT Minister Elmir Velizadeh said.
He added that the level of Internet penetration in Azerbaijan reached 45 percent as of late 2010. Over 12 percent of the total number of Internet users are broadband users.
"Today, the main aspect in the development of the Internet market is the widespread use of computers among the population. The 'People's Computer' project is being implemented in this field in Azerbaijan. At present, over 10,000 units have been sold," he said.
Regarding Internet tariffs, he stressed that they are among the most affordable in the region.
