Turkish companies in Georgia begin exports to EU

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 3

By Maryana Akhmedova – Trend:

Several Turkish companies have already exported their Georgian-made production to Europe, Mehmet Melek, Deputy Chairman of the Turkish-Georgian Businessmen Association said, Trend reports via Georgian media.

Georgia, the EU, and Turkey entered into the "diagonal cumulation" agreement, which will allow the export of Georgian products made with Turkish raw materials to the EU market in a free trade regime.

According to Mehmet Melek, the agreement will be beneficial for both Turkish and Georgian businessmen.

"Turkish businessmen can move their enterprises to Georgia and export their production to Europe. Several Turkish textile companies have already established their factories in Georgian Batumi and export them to Europe," the representative of the Turkish-Georgian Businessmen Association said.

"I think after the COVID-19 pandemic, even more businessmen will come to Georgia from Turkey," he added.

The launch of the "diagonal cumulation" between the parties was preceded by the relevant negotiations and amendments to the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement between the EU and Georgia and the Turkey-Georgia Bilateral Free Trade Agreement.
