Iran ups seizing drugs on border areas

The Iranian law enforcement agencies increased seizing of illegal drugs by 36 percent on border areas in the first four months of this year, Iranian Border Guards Commander General Hussein Zulfugari was quoted as saying by IRINN. The Iranian new year begins in March.
About 11 ton of drugs were seized in the country during the report period, he said. The police killed nine drug smugglers on the border, Zulfugari added.
Zulfugari said the Iranian government allocated about $40mln to strengthen the border security. "But, this is not enough. About $200 million is required to implement full control over Iran's borders, " Zulfugari said.
