An Afghan National Army soldier has lost his life after a roadside bomb planted by a group of Taliban militants detonated next to his vehicle in the remote northern province of Jawzjan, Press TV reported.

The attack came shortly after an Afghan policeman sustained injuries in a bombing in the eastern city of Khost on Saturday.

In addition, on Friday six members of the Afghan National Police (ANP) were killed and three others wounded in an attack in Afghanistan's southeastern province of Logar.

"A Taliban rocket attack on a security checkpoint killed six ANP soldiers and wounded three others in the Baraki Barak district," a senior spokesman for the Taliban, Zabihullah Mujahid, told the Pajhwok Afghan News on Friday.

Baraki Barak Governor Muhammad Rahim confirmed the incident but said no Afghan policemen were killed.

"The incident happened when a rocket launched by the Taliban hit the checkpoint at around 6:30 a.m. local time (0200 GMT). A fierce firefight broke out following the attack. Two militants were killed and two Afghan policemen sustained injuries in the skirmish," he said.

He added that the wounded are in a critical condition at a district health facility.

In a separate incident, two Afghan policemen were wounded in the same region when their patrol vehicle struck a mine.

Ill-equipped and under-trained Afghan police officers have largely fallen victim to the increasingly frequent Taliban attacks in both urban and rural parts of the country.
