Uzbekistan, Tashkent, Dec.22 / Trend , D.Aziziov /

Uzbek President Islam Karimov signed a package of amendments to the Code of Administrative Responsibility to improve legislation to protect the rights of minors.

The law was adopted by the Oliy Majlis Legislative Chamber in November and approved by the Upper House of parliament in December. The law comes into force Feb. 1, 2010.

The amendments were developed to implement a national action plan in Uzbekistan to enforce the International Labor Organization Convention and ILO Convention on Minimum Age for Admission to Employment. Both documents were ratified by Uzbekistan in March 2008.

According to the amendments, violations will result in a fine 5-10 times the minimum wage.

The code is supplemented by an article prohibiting child labor that could result in harm to health, safety or moral well-being.
